Papier-maché is a combination of pieces of paper or paper pulp, reinforced by adhesives.
Papier-mâché is originally a French word meaning compressed paper (papier means paper and mâché means crumpled), and the reason for its name is that after kneading, the paper is mixed with a kind of glue and pressed to be produced.
This art became popular in Iran during the Safavid period and in the cities of Isfahan and Qazvin were the main centers of production of this art.
